Pastor's Page

My name is Louis Strickler. I became the pastor of Woodlawn Church in July of 2006, but I am not new to Roanoke. I grew up in Roanoke and graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1976.

I then graduated from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. in 1980 and completed my seminary training at Candler School of Theology (Emory University) in Atlanta, Georgia in 1983. Prior to coming to Woodlawn Church, I served as the pastor of churches in Fairfax, Faber, Port Republic, Roanoke, and Portsmouth, Virginia. I completed a Doctor of Ministry degree in 1997 at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky.

Are you new to Roanoke or just looking for a new church home? Have you been a Christian for quite a while or are you a seeker who wants to know more of what Christianity is all about? Woodlawn Church would love to have you worship with us. Our congregation seeks to know, serve, and honor Jesus in all we do together. We accomplish this through inspiring worship experiences which transform our lives in Jesus’ presence, through many small group experiences in which we are discipled and strengthened as a Christian community, and through participation in ministries which help us reach out to others in the world.

God may be leading you to draw closer to Him here at Woodlawn Church, which is a warm and loving congregation. We would welcome you with open arms. The size of Woodlawn Church provides new guests such as you with an opportunity to get to know others more easily. Here, you will quickly find a comforting sense of belonging and community. Our members would love to have you join them not only for worship at 11:00 a.m., but to also take part in Sunday School, Wednesday night meals, Bible Study, and other men’s, women’s, and children’s groups.

Pastor Louis Stickler, Woodlawn UMCPerhaps you would like me to spend some time discussing with you what you are looking for in a church. Perhaps you have other issues in your life you’d like help sorting out. I would welcome an opportunity to meet with you. Woodlawn and I are here for you. This is the ministry God has called us to do.  For more information on our church, please call our church office at 774-8126 and ask to speak with me.

 Sincerely,

 Dr. Louis M. Strickler

Pastor of Woodlawn Church
